Photos 2

This photo has strong contrast between the mountain side and the sky. The morning light also falls really nicely on the side of one of the mountain sides creating a lot of interesting lines. The black and white of the photo also adds a lot because it forces you to look at the values in the photo. The values are what adds weight and gives the photo composition. That's why contrast is so important in this photo.

The outfit contrasts well with the evening light. The darkness of the clothing center weights the image and draws the eye in a circular motion through the image. As far as subject matter goes, the dark outfit has affinity to the gravestones surrounding it. The gravestones also contrast against the bright light and colors. I think these contrasts and affinities create an interesting photo full of information to look at.

This photo has a lot of contrast in color. The sky has a nice cool color while the grass has a yellow color. The colors compliment each other well and add a nice balance to the photo. The bold colors contrasted with the dark rock also adds balance to the composition. I think the photo would be better if the cloud would have been on the other side of the frame. That would have given the entire image a little more balance and it would have made a cool diagonal.

  1. Jase,
Your first photo could have been in color, but you chose to make it B&W which was interesting. You made a statement with that decision. It definitely enhances the values by making them more visible to the eye. It is a gorgeous backdrop for a photo.

As for your second photo, I liked how the sun is directly behind Brenna's head because it helps draw your eye to her. I agree with how her attire and the gravestones are not as vibrant as her hairline, which adds to the subject as the focus.

Your third photo is well framed. I like the rocks on one side with the horizon flowing from left to right. If you were to take this photo again, it might be interesting to see if you could get lower to have the rocks not blend in with the horizon line to create more of a contrast in shapes and lines. Also, that random cloud is pretty awesome.
